2011 Columbus Marathon

If you have made it this far ... THANK YOU!  No matter how well organized a race might be, it would STILL be a total disaster without volunteers.  We realize the importance of your time and service and are very appreciative.

Some facts about the Columbus Marathon that might be of interest to you are listed below.  Did you know ....

This is the 32nd running of the Columbus Marathon.  However, it's only the SIXTH running of the Half Marathon.

The goal is to have 2,011 volunteers involved in the 2011 Columbus Marathon.  Many of our volunteers have been working the race since it's inception in 1980 (that's 32 years!).

The field has been increased to 17,000 participants: 6,000 in the full and 11,000 in the half.  This will be the largest field in our history.

In 2011 the Marathon launched a new charitable fundraising initiative to raise $1 MILLION! Volunteers can help with this endeavor and raise money for one or the Marathon's official charities or any charity they choose.

Please take a couple of minutes to read all information below in its entirety to ensure that your volunteer experience will be a positive one.

To volunteer, please click on the "Register Now" link on the upper right side of this page to begin your online volunteer registration. You will first be asked to complete a personal profile to establish an online volunteer account.  If you have been given a security access code, please enter it on the personal profile page.  Next, you will be asked to agree to the terms of a release waiver.  You will then see the available shifts and will have the opportunity to select your desired shifts.  Please be sure to complete the entire process until you see a confirmation page.  An email will be sent immediately to confirm your volunteer registration on the website and then another email will be sent confirming the shifts you selected. If you do not receive these emails, contact us immediately.

HOUSEKEEPING RULES:

  • Dress Code: Volunteers must wear the volunteer t-shirt that is provided to them with comfortable pants (nothing torn or with holes) and comfortable shoes.
  • Feel free to paint your face, wear a funny hat, ring cowbells!
  • Only racers and volunteers are invited to the post-race party and all must have a post-race party ticket to gain admittance.
  • Should you choose to work a water station, we recommend you bring a flashlight (in case it's dark during set up), a broom or rake or snowblower.  These items help with a faster & easier clean up!
  • One person from each water station must wait for the "Sweep Team" to pick up remaining supplies such as fluid containers, leftover cups, banners, tables, etc.

A COUPLE OF GUIDELINES:

  • Treat everyone (visitors, participants and other volunteers) with courtesy. If problems occur, please contact a staff member, your team leader or a committee member. We are there to assist you.
  • At the end of your shift, if you have not been relieved, please tell a captain and stay in your area until a replacement comes. If this is the final or only shift of the event, please check with your captain before leaving your shift.
  • ATTENDANCE: We depend on your commitment to participate. Your presence and prompt arrival for your scheduled shifts are absolutely necessary. When you commit, you commit to the selected shift(s) and the entire shift time.
  • SHIFT CANCELLATION: All volunteers can manage their itinerary on this website including shift additions, shift changes/cancellations, adding friends/family to shifts. Use your email address and password to login and return to your registration to make any changes.
  • WEATHER: Our events are rain or shine, so please do not let rain stop you from coming – we still need you!
  • Patience is always a must
  • SMILE AND HAVE FUN!
